The Rometsch Karosserie in Berlin built the aluminum bodied Beeskow convertible, named after the designer Johannes Beeskow. It was based on a VW beetle chassis which was much easier than building a complete chassis from scratch. There is some debate regarding how many Beeskow models were made between 1950-1957, but there are about 40 known to exist today. This example had been found in a field in Sacramento and passed through multiple owners over the years before I purchased it, and there was a lot to be done. The restoration was completed 15 years ago by Ray Schubert. The aluminum skin was repaired / replaced as needed, and new bumpers and moldings were made. All mechanicals were rebuilt, including a 1414cc engine with Porsche crankshaft and dual Solex carbs, Porsche pre-A drum brakes front and rear. The car was finished in a Mercedes metallic green color, and with a green leather interior.Since the restoration, this Rometsch has been displayed and enjoyed by many at car shows throughout California.
